Nico Hurtado
Mayde Creek High School
Nico Hurtado is 16-years-old and is a Junior at Mayde
Creek High School. He participates in the top choirs of his school, Kantori and Ecore! He’s
been acting since he was in 6th grade and got an agent by 9th grade. Nico’s had classes
with people from Page Parkes and the Lone Star Actors Studio. He’s represented by
Page Parkes Houston. Nico has done many theatre work and commercial work. He is

Jorge Batrez
Texas A&M University
Jorge Batrez, pictured with former president of A&M
and current U.S. Secretary of Defense Dr. Robert Gate, is an Applied Mathematics to Actuarial Science Major from Houston, TX. He has known since his freshman
year in high school that he was going to become an Aggie.
As a college student he has been active in one major organization, Society of
Mexican American Engineers and Scientist (MAES). But none of this would have
been possible if it was not for the Century Scholars Scholarship. But the scholarship
is much more than just $20,000, it is a learning community, where we travel abroad,
participate in leadership and team building efforts and recruit the next class of
scholars from our very own community.
Dwayne Gaines
University of Texas
Dwayne Gaines was Salutatorian for the 2008 graduating
class of Jack Yates High School. He is the recipient of a Longhorn Presidential
Scholarship and plans to study civil engineering at the University of Texas.
Gaines is a member of the Honor Roll. Math was his favorite subject at Yates
High School, where he took four Advanced Placement and two dual-credit courses.He was active in the Royal Court, the Student Council and in sports. Gaines was the recipient of numerous awards, including a Congressional Recognition and the Most Outstanding Student Award.

Rachel Verret
Klein Collins High School
Rachel Verret is defi nitely one to watch. The up
and coming actress has a budding resume already as a talent at Page Parkes
Modeling Agency. She appeared in plays including Charlotte’s Web, Little Shop of
Horrors, GT & The Halo Express, Jack and the GiantGreater Tuna, and Our Town.
When Rachel is not acting or singing she enjoys Swimming, Reading, Great
with Kids, Jogging, Theatre, Video Games, Dance, Singing, Great with Animals,
Computers, Shopping, Fashion, Running, Badminton, Hiking, Camping, Fishing,
Paintball, and HTML/Website making.

Marc Soriano
University of Texas
Marc Soriano was Salutatorian for the 2008 graduating class
of Booker T. Washington High School. He is the recipient of a Longhorn Opportunity
Scholarship and a FIRST Scholarship. He plans to study civil engineering at the
University of Texas.
Soriano is a member of the National Honor Society. Math was his favorite subject
at Washington High School, where he took eight Advanced Placement courses and
one dual-credit course. He was active in FIRST Robotics, SECME (Southeastern
Consortium for Minorities in Engineering), and the Society of Mexican American Engineers and Scientists. Soriana has received numerous awards, including fi rst place in NASA’s rocket competition.
